Fraud in Asia: Problems and Countermeasures

More so than perhaps any other region of the world, the continent of Asia is sharply divided in terms of such factors as culture, history and economic development. Such diversity also extends to criminal justice development, and as a result often impairs smooth cooperation at both regional and international levels. This paper aims to offer a brief comparative analysis of the different manifestations of fraud and the current situation concerning the prevention and control of fraud in various Asian countries, both in terms of domestic and international efforts. Discussion topics will include existing legislation; investigation, prosecution and trial practices; and regional efforts to improve cooperation.
