Mental health apprehensions are one of several tools for police to call upon when dealing with a mentally ill person. However, these apprehensions highlight the issues facing the health care system and law enforcement in dealing with mental illness. Despite the apparent overlap in the population dealt with by health and criminal justice systems, there is little information sharing, if any at all.
