Interaction Between International and Domestic Human Rights Law: A Canadian Perspective

This paper describes the Canadian approach to the implementation of international human rights treaties. It begins with a discussion of the sections of the Canadian legal and constitutional framework relevant to the ratification and implementation of international human rights treaties. Then, outlines the steps taken domestically prior to ratifying a treaty, and concludes with a discussion on how Canadian courts have interpreted the relationship between international human rights treaties and domestic law.
