Handbook for Protessionals and Policymakers on Justice in Matters Involving Child Victims and Witnesses of Crime

The Handbook is based on international best practices in the treatment of child victims and witnesses of crime by the criminal justice system. It is intended to serve as guidance for policymakers and professionals dealing with child victims and witnesses of crime, such as judges, medical and support staff, law enforcement officials, prosecutors, social workers, staff of non-governmental organizations and teachers. In line with the structure and content of the Guidelines on Justice in Matters involving Child Victims and Witnesses of Crime, the Handbook contains 12 chapters, dealing respectively with the best interests of the child, the right to be treated with dignity and compassion, the right to be protected from discrimination, the right to be informed, the right to be heard and to express views and concerns, the right to effective assistance, the right to privacy, the right to be protected from hardship during the justice process, the right to safety, the right to reparation, the right to special preventive measures, and implementation of the Guidelines.
